HydrophobNeo-W Water Repellent Composition

Water Repellent Agent For Wood

HydrophobNeo-W water repellent composition is used to protect surfaces of building constructions and articles made of wood and wood-based materials (plywood, wood-chip boards, oriented strand boards and others).

HydrophobNeo-W unique composition improves water repellent properties of articles made of wood and wood-based materials:

  • forms a water repellent layer within the material;
  • preserves vapor permeability, allows wood constructions to breathe;
  • prevents wood deformation and cracking;
  • does not change wood natural color and structure;
  • is produced without using dangerous for human health and environment antiseptics.

PRODUCT DATA SHEET

Description

HydrophobNeo-W water repellent composition is designed to impart water repellent and frost resisting properties to building materials and protect from moisture saturation of building constructions and articles made of wood and wood-based materials (plywood, wood-chip boards, oriented strand boards and others).

Features and Benefits

Surfaces treated with HydrophobNeo-W have water-repellent and frost resisting properties. They become resistant to atmospheric precipitation.

HydrophobNeo-W water repellent agent does not form a film – it penetrates the surface to form a water repellent layer within the material to reduce moisture penetration. The product keeps the gas permeability of treated surfaces: material breathes. The HydrophobNeo-W water repellent composition has no colour; does not change the pattern and colour of treated surfaces. After drying the coating is harmless for men and animals. Wood articles treated with the composition are protected from water penetration, so they become resistant to swelling, buckling and cracking.

When used outdoors treated surfaces keep water repellent effect for about 8 years. Durability of the coating is approximate and may vary depending on types of wood, wood texture, wood board properties, climatic conditions, etc.

Uses

  • Effective protection of wood constructions and articles from moisture penetration;
  • Protection of decorative elements of wood constructions and wood articles from swelling, buckling and cracking;
  • Effective hydrophobization of edges of wood boards which are used in manufacturing of bathroom, kitchen and other damp rooms’ furniture;
  • Use in preservation and restoration of wood articles;
  • Prevention of wood deterioration;
  • Protection from moisture penetration as an additional (finish’) treatment of wood constructions and articles.

Directions for Use

The HydrophobNeo-W composition is supplied in the form of two solutions (two component packaging). Before using the solution №2 is poured into the solution №1 followed by good mixing (shaking), after this the composition is ready to use. The mixed composition may be stored for several weeks in the closed (but not hermetically) container. The application and drying works should be held in well aired rooms or at the  open air.

Air temperatures should be a minimum of 32°F and a maximum of 95° F during the application. Do not apply to frozen or frost covered surfaces. Do not apply to surfaces when it is raining or snowing.

Application must be to clean, dry to slightly damp surfaces. When applied to wet surface the penetration depth of the composition decreases drastically. The HydrophobNeo-W composition gives the best water-repellent properties when used for well dried wood. Remove dust, dirt, oils, efflorescence, wax, coatings or other foreign matter that might block or interfere with product penetration. It is not recommended to be used to protect surfaces treated before with drying oil, lacquers, paints or another film forming compositions. Any treatment with non film forming compositions (mordants, fire retardants, antiseptics) should be held before waterproof treatment. When applied to surfaces used outdoors it is recommended that wood surfaces be preliminary treated with colorless water based antiseptics.

Always perform a test application to a small area of surface for proper penetration on each type of surface before starting full-scale application to determine suitability and final appearance.

The composition is applied in one layer by brush, applicator roll, sponge or sprayer in amount enough to wet the surface but without runs. Excess of the composition should be removed. The treated articles should be conditioned for several hours (at room temperature), after this they are ready for use. At lower temperatures the conditioning time increases. Drying time: two to six hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Optimum water repellency is developed within 24 hours. Protect surfaces from rainfall for 24 hours following treatment.

Consumption is 0.1 – 0.25 L/m2. Increasing of the amount of the applied composition does not improve the water-repellent properties but lead to formation of rubberlike film at the wood surface.

Treated surfaces may be painted a week later, if it is necessary. It is recommended that the treated surfaces be wiped with a wet cloth or be washed with clean water in 1-2 days before further treatment.

NOTE: The HydrophobNeo-W water repellent composition cannot completely substitute the antiseptics! Treated surfaces may be painted with an oil-based or alkyd based (not a water-based!) paint. Testing is always necessary to ensure adhesion and compatibility. Prevent from being spilled or over sprayed onto glass surfaces. If being spilled onto glass surfaces remove the composition with a dry or wet cloth.
